We now offer Tapered Section Retaining Rings (Circlips) from stock in addition to Spirolox and Constant Section Snap Rings.

Tapered section retaining rings, also referred to as circlips, are retaining rings with a tapered radial wall. They are designed for high thrust loads and heavy-duty applications.

Tapered section retaining rings can be axially installed into a bore/shaft groove to safely secure assemblies in place. The tapered radial width decreases from the top to the free ends, ensuring nearly full contact with the groove when installed.

Axially assembled retaining rings for bores, designed to be installed into a housing groove.
The ring functions as a removable shoulder, safely securing the assembly.

Tapered Section Ring Installation and Removal

Tapered section retaining rings (circlips) have lugs and lug holes that aid in installation and removal via retaining ring pliers. Ring expansion and contraction should be limited to avoid possible deformation caused by installation. We recommend using pliers DIN 5254, which have stop and return screws to safely and gradually control ring expansion.
