Detailed Wave Spring Information

  • Compact design reduces wave spring cavity by 50% with equal deflection and force as coil springs
  • No Tooling Charges™ for specially designed wave springs
  • Edge-wound wave springs have a circumferential grain structure that provides exceptional strength and dimensional stability
  • Over 4,000 standard Wave Springs
  • Free design assistance
  • Delivery in one week on standard and special design springs

Single Turn Wave Springs

Single turn gap or overlap type wave springs can be ordered from stock and are suitable for a majority of applications. Choose from a large selection of bore and rod diameters, loading capacities, work and free heights, number of waves and thicknesses.

Standard Parts
½"-16" Diameters
Carbon and Stainless Steel

Crest-to-Crest® Wave Springs

Crest-to-Crest wave springs are typically used in applications requiring low-medium spring rates or large deflections with low-medium forces. They occupy 1/3 to ½ the axial space of a conventional round wire spring while maintaining the same rate and deflection.

Standard Parts
¼"-2" and 6 mm - 60 mm Diameters
Carbon and Stainless Steel

Crest-to-Crest® Wave Springs with Shim Ends

Crest-to-Crest wave springs are typically used in applications requiring low-medium spring rates or large deflections with low-medium forces. They occupy 1/3 to ½ the axial space of a conventional round wire spring while maintaining the same rate and deflection.

Standard Parts
¼"-2" and 6 mm - 60 mm Diameters
Carbon and Stainless Steel

Bearing Preload Wave Springs

Bearing preload wave springs exert constant light/medium pressure that removes play between the ball bearings' inner and outer races. Preloading can reduce the possibility of bearing damage due to vibration (vibratory loading) and wear due to repetitive and non-repetitive runout. Bearing preload springs can help minimize bearing noise, eliminate play and prevent fretting.

Standard Parts
16mm-580mm Diameters
Carbon and Stainless Steel

Wavo® Springs

Wavo Springs are produced from round-section wire to provide
higher loads while maintaining the accurate loading found in wave springs.

As an alternative to Belleville Springs, the Wavo provides similar loads but with an accurate, predictable spring rate.

Nested

Nested Spirawave Wave Springs often replace Belleville spring washers and are ideal for applications requiring high but accurate forces, high spring rates and short deflections.

Linear Springs

Linear Springs are a continuous wave formed (marcelled) wire length produced from spring tempered materials. They act as a load bearing device having approximately the same load/deflection characteristics as a wave spring.

Axial Expanders

Forces act axially depending on the installed position. Axial pressure is obtained by lying the expander flat in a straight line. Circular wrapping the expander produces a radial force or outward pressure. Linear Springs are available cut to length or as a continuous coil for the user to cut as needed.

Special Wave Spring Designs
Special designs comprise approximately 75% of Smalley's production. Because of Smalley's No-Tooling-Cost manufacturing process, special wave spring designs can be economically and quickly produced.

  • .200" to 120" Diameters
  • No Tooling Charges™
  • Delivery 1-4 weeks
  • Perfect for large runs, prototypes and midstream design changes
  • Exotic alloys available
  • Free engineering assistance
